I hate how at times like these, memories come haunting me. here, let me tell you a story.
one day, a mother decided to put her daughter under the care of her aunt. all through primary school, this aunt bathed her, fed her, taught her. in short, this aunt took good care of the girl. the girl looked upon the aunt as her mother. frankly, the girl thinks her mother can never be the mother that her aunt was to her. even till now.
six years together, what did you expect? when she started secondary school, the girl's mother took her back. the girl drifted apart from her aunt, despite living 15 mins away. time went by. one day, she received a call from her aunt. her aunt was lonely and just called to talk. guess what the girl said? she said she was 'busy' and had to hang up. in reality, the girl wasn't doing anything.
the next day, her aunt died.
that girl is me. and this is my number one regret. I took her for granted. I repaid her with my shit attitude. I would trade my life for hers in a fucking heartbeat. yeah, that would work out. her son wouldn't have to be an orphan then. and I wouldn't exist to give other people problems. problem solved.
judge me all you want. I admit it was a heartless thing to do. it broke my fucking heart not to be able to talk to her one last time. I was stupid and still am. and I'm sorry.
I'm sorry for treating you like that. even after all these years, the guilt inside me has never gone away. not even a bit. and I deserve this.
